June Rose Van Oort, the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Dankbar) Engstler, was born on June 17, 1935, on a farm north of Garner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1953. June married Homer Van Oort on June 25, 1955, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The couple called Garner home for their entire married life and raised their six children there.
June served her community for many years as a paraeducator and later as a volunteer at Garner-Hayfield Elementary School. She cherished time spent with her family, particularly at their retreat along the Mississippi River in Lake City, Minnesota. June was known for her commitment to her friendships, making it a priority to return early from the river each weekend to attend her Monday morning coffee group, known as the Golden Girls. She also looked forward to her Wednesday golf outings with friends, and when golf was no longer an option, she treasured card games in good company. June was a lifetime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
