Double Fatality in Hwy. 18 Crash

Two persons were killed and two others sustained injuries in a two vehicle crash on Hwy. 18 1/4 mile east of Oak Ave., March 4.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Chevy Silverado driven by Angel Ruiz-Tamayo of Clarion was west bound on Hwy. 18, east of Oak Ave. A KIA Sorento driven by Jason Foell of Britt, was east bound at the same location. Ruiz-Tamayo lost control on the ice-covered road and struck the vehicle driven by Foell, broadside. 

Ruiz-Tamayo 46, and a rear seat passenger in the vehicle, Constantino Cruz Barradas, 40, of Goodell. were fatally injured in the crash. A front seat passenger Tomas San Juan Ruiz, 41, of Belmond, was injured and transported to MercyOne North Iowa.

The driver of the KIA Sorento, Jason Foell, 51, was also transported to MercyOne for treatment.

The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by then Hancock County Sheriff Office, Garner fire department, Garner ambulance, Clear Lake police and ambulance, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office and Britt Auto.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
